Do you want to enlarge your medical knowledge and gain new skills abroad? Always dreamed of making friends from all over the world? You can’t wait to explore new cultures?
Then maybe SCOPE is something for you!

What is SCOPE?

SCOPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) is a full educational program offering clinical clerkships in English or the language of the host country to medical students abroad. SCOPE is an international project of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations), the coordinating organization of BeMSA. The SCOPE exchange program is a quality educational and cultural experience organized entirely by medical students with the help of their medical faculties. More than 13.000 students from 98 countries participate each year in SCOPE. The exchange project is recognized by WFME (World Federation of Medical Education).

During 4 weeks in the summer months (July, August, September), you can do an internship in a department of your choice in one of the countries Belgium signed a contract with.

The local student organization of IFMSA offers a one-month clerkship with a supervising tutor at the hospital and department of your choice, lodging at a student facility or with a host family, one meal per day, a social program and a contact person. A contact person is a local medical student who guides the exchange student: he/she is the person you can contact in case of problems, the person who will be there at your arrival, who shows you the hospital and present you the first day to your tutor, who gives tips about the social program… The social program can be anything: welcome party, cultural events, touristic trips around the country, chilling at the beach… More information on the social program and the departments offered in each country can be found on
